One of the really nice things about going on vacation to Door County again with John's family was that they offered to babysit Jack a couple of nights. John and I got to go out to Trio for dinner on tuesday night of our week.
We had a great meal-we had fried artichoke hearts for a starter, then I had cassoulet with duck confit and John had lamb and lentils. We split a lovely bottle of Pinot Noir (shown here for our memory) and decided to each have our own dessert...they were unbelievably good.
We decided to drive down by the water in Egg Harbor-just to check it out. There are beautiful huge houses along the drive, but at the end was a little turnoff that was right by the water. We pulled up and got out to watch the sunset, but the mosquitos were so bad that we dove back into the trusty CRV. We watched the sunset from inside the car instead, set to a soundtrack of Andrew Bird.
The sun down, we returned to our little cottage and built a fire in the fire pit. We sat, talked, had a Spotted Cow and made s'mores. A little woodsmoke and a lot of Deep Woods Off kept the mosquitos at bay. I forgot how much I used to enjoy summers up north with the stars overhead, a sweatshirt on, and a fire to sit next to.
